Terms of use

These are the rules for using Reckon, in the app and on reckon.guide. By creating an account you agree to them and to our privacy policy.

Your account

• Reckon is invite-only for now. You need an invite code to join.
• You must be at least 13 years old.
• One account per person. Use your real name or a name people who know you would recognise, and don't pretend to be someone else.
• Keep your password to yourself. You're responsible for what happens on your account.

Your content

• Your books, recs, notes and photos are yours. By posting them you let Reckon store them and show them to the people your privacy settings allow. That permission ends when you delete them or your account.
• Your recs are your opinions. Other people's recs are theirs, and Reckon doesn't check them for accuracy. Opening hours change and places close, so check before you go.
• Only post photos you took or have the right to share.

What isn't allowed

Don't post, or use Reckon to send, anything that:

• harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone;
• is hateful toward people because of who they are, including their race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexuality, disability or nationality;
• is sexually explicit, or shows graphic violence;
• shares someone else's private information, or photos of people who haven't agreed to be shared;
• is spam, advertising you're paid for and don't disclose, or fake recommendations;
• infringes someone else's copyright or other rights;
• is illegal, or encourages something illegal or dangerous.

Don't try to get into other people's accounts, get around privacy settings or blocks, or disrupt the service.

Reporting and blocking

• Report a person or a rec in the app, from the "…" menu on their profile or on the rec. Reports come to us, not to the person you reported.
• We review reports within 24 hours. When content breaks these rules we remove it, and we delete the accounts of people who post it or who harass others.
• Block someone from the same menu. You won't see each other in Reckon, and they can't send you friend requests. You can unblock people in Settings.
• You can also reach us any time through Contact.

Adding recs from your photos

"Add from photos" suggests recs from photos you pick. To do that, small copies of the photos you pick, with their location and other hidden details removed, are sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to read signs and name the place, and map coordinates are sent to Google Maps to find places nearby. Neither is saved to your book unless you add the rec. By using "Add from photos" you agree to this. The privacy policy has the details. You can always add recs by hand instead.

Place information

Place names, addresses and map locations come from Google Maps, and maps from Apple and CARTO. They can be wrong or out of date.

The service

• Reckon is provided as it is. We work to keep it running and your content safe, but we can't promise it will always be available or free of mistakes.
• As far as the law allows, we aren't responsible for losses that come from using Reckon or from relying on someone's recommendation.
• We may change or stop features. If we ever shut Reckon down, we'll give you notice first.
• You can delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. We can suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms.

Changes

We'll update this page and the date at the top when these terms change. If a change is significant, we'll let you know before it takes effect.
